A cell-permeable furfurylidine-thiobarbituric acid compound that acts as a potent, specific, competitive and reversible inhibitor of the pro-apoptotic, heat-inducible, mitochondrial serine protease Omi/HtrA2 (IC50 = 9.5 µM for
