Cartoons have always been an integral part of Calbiochem's history. From the first cartoon ever in the October 1955 edition of BIOLOGICS, our product newsletter, Calbiochem has been finding humor in the relentless pursuit of scientific discovery. For the first 20 years, all the cartoons were "stick" characters developed by one of the Calbiochem employees. Then, starting around 1980, outside artists were also invited to submit cartoons for consideration, a practice that continues to this day. With that expansion, the "stick" people faded away, and the current format of our cartoons began to emerge.

We realize that not everyone will agree that our cartoons are artistic triumphs! Nevertheless, we continue to be pleasantly surprised at the warm reception and considerable interest that scientists around the world consistently give them. Even with humor being both very illusive and personal, especially in a cross-cultural world, we are amazed at the number of customers who tell us about the smiles we put on their faces with each new rendition.

After many years of being in the Life Science business, we would like to think that we are best known as the the steadfast quality company with great service and support that continues to bring more and more increasingly innovative products to targeted areas of science. While this is certainly true, many also see us as a company with a great sense of humor, with we truly appreciate.
