Leptomycin B is an unsaturated, branched-chain fatty acid with a terminal lactone ring that acts as a potent inhibitor of Crm1 (exportin-1)-mediated nuclear export. Exhibits antibiotic, antifungal, and antitumor properties and blocks the progression of cell cycle at G1 and G2 phases. Protects p53 from Mdm2-mediated degradation and induces p53 transcriptional activity.
