| | Press Releases | | | | | | October 6, 2004 | | | | | | EMD releases the Inhibitor SourceBook™, the first comprehensive guide to inhibitors for signal transduction research and drug discovery | | | | | | San Diego, CA, October 6, 2004: EMD Biosciences, Inc. (EMD), a major supplier of premium research tools for proteomics and disease pathway analysis through its global brands Calbiochem®, Novabiochem®, and Novagen®, today announced the release of the Calbiochem® Inhibitor SourceBook™. The first of its kind in the industry, this publication represents the most comprehensive listing of inhibitors for signal transduction and drug discovery research. EMD is part of the Life Science and Analytics (LSA) division of Merck KGaA (Darmstadt, Germany) and operates as EMD Biosciences, Inc. in North America and as Merck Biosciences outside North America. The Inhibitor SourceBook features detailed technical information on more than 1000 inhibitors; a technical guide to aid researchers on inhibitor selection and use; research topic overviews (including cancer, apoptosis, angiogenesis, Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders, and inflammation); cell signaling pathway schematics; and literature citations. | Download or Request your free copy today!
| | | Inhibitors are critical tools for researchers who work on cell signaling. In the body, biochemical and environmental signals control intracellular processes as well as interactions between cells, tissues, and organs. Cellular enzymes often transmit, or respond to, those signals. Many diseases result from the dysfunction of one particular enzyme among the thousands present in a typical cell. Inhibitors are used in living cells and in vitro to identify and study the enzyme(s) that may be responsible for disease, and to enable researchers to pinpoint a specific enzyme as a possible target for drug therapy. In fact, many drug candidates are enzyme inhibitors.
“The Calbiochem brand has always been known for the breadth and depth of its inhibitor offerings and for its timely development of high-quality, sensitive, specific inhibitors,” stated Dr. Robert Mierendorf, Chief Technology Officer, EMD. “The Inhibitor SourceBook provides researchers with a new tool to facilitate rapid progress in drug discovery. Customer response to our Inhibitor SourceBook has already been overwhelmingly favorable, even though it has been available for only a short time.” | | | | | | For Further Information Contact: | | | Karin A.
