Protein : PPARG

Name PPARG
Description Peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma; peroxisome proliferator activator receptor gamma 2. PPAR-gamma plays a key role in cell differentiation.
Owner Public
URN urn:agi-llid:5468
Connectivity 188
Notes The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) subfamily of nuclear receptors. PPARs form heterodimers with retinoid X receptors (RXRs) and these heterodimers regulate transcription of various genes. Three subtypes of PPARs are known: PPAR-alpha, PPAR-delta, and PPAR-gamma. The protein encoded by this gene is PPAR-gamma and is a regulator of adipocyte differentiation. Additionally, PPAR-gamma has been implicated in the pathology of numerous diseases including obesity, diabetes, atherosclerosis and cancer. Multiple transcript variants that use alternate promoters and splicing have been identified for this gene. At least three of these variants encode the same isoform.

State peroxisome proliferative activated receptor gamma isoform 1
peroxisome proliferative activated receptor gamma isoform 2

State Description Transcript Variant: This variant (4) lacks an internal region of the 5' UTR as compared to variant 1. Variants 1, 3 and 4 encode the same isoform, 1.
Transcript Variant: This variant (2) has an alternate 5' end sequence as compared to variant 1. Variant 2 encodes the longest isoform, 2, which has a unique amino terminus.
Transcript Variant: This variant (3) lacks the terminal 5' UTR sequence of variant 1 and instead has a unique sequence at the 5' end. Variants 1, 3 and 4 encode the same isoform, 1.
Transcript Variant: This variant (1) contains the longest 5' UTR and encodes the same isoform as variants 3 and 4.
