White solid. HYGROSCOPIC. PACKAGED UNDER INERT GAS. A zwitterionic detergent that contains hydroxypropyl group between alkylphenyl hydrophobic tail and ammonio-propane sulfone hydrophilic head. Useful for solubilizing and stabilizing integral membrane proteins by disrupting aggregates. Reported to be compatible with urea ( ~ 7 M) and has been used successfully to extract A. thaliana leaf plasma membrane proteins and band III, a 100 kDa erythrocyte polytransmembrane protein, by two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DGE). Purity: ≥98% by TLC.
