White solid. HYGROSCOPIC. Nucleoside antibiotic that specifically inhibits protein synthesis in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Suitable for use as a dominant selectable marker in conjunction with blasticidin S resistant plasmids. Blasticidin S resistance is conferred by the blasticidin S deaminase gene (bcr), which converts blastisidin S to a nontoxic deaminohydroxy derivative. Purity: ≥ 98% by HPLC. CAS 3513-03-9.
