Bone Morphogenetic Protein-6 Lyophilized. Lyophilized from a 0.2 µm filtered solution of 35% ACN, 0.1% TFA, 50 µg BSA/µg BMP-6. Recombinant, mouse bone morphogenetic protein-6 expressed in NSO cells. An osteogenic protein belonging to the transforming growth factor-b (TGF-b) superfamily. BMP-6 has been shown to strongly induce phosphorylation and nuclear accumulation of Smad5. BMPs have also been shown to be involved in embryogenesis and morphogenesis of cells of osteoblastic lineage. A positive regulator of keratinocyte differentiation. MW: 18000 + 23000 (reducing conditions). Biological activity: ED50 = 50-150 ng/ml based on the ability to induce alkaline phosphatase expression in MC3T3-E1 cells. Purity: ≥95% by SDS-PAGE. Contaminants: endotoxin: ≤100 pg/µg cytokine. M.W. 18,000 and 23,000 under reducing conditions. Ref.: McDonnell, M.A., et al. 2001. Exp. Cell. Res. 263, 265. Ebisawa, T., et al. 1999. J.
