CHX White solid. HYGROSCOPIC. PACKAGED UNDER INERT GAS. An anti-microbial agent that acts as an inhibitor of MMP-2 and MMP-9; however, MMP-2 is more sensitive to chlorhexidine than MMP-9. Inhibits the collagenase activity of MMP-8 released by PMA-triggered polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) in a dose-dependent manner. CHX may possibly act through a cation-chelating mechanism.
