A cell-permeable anti-inflammatory sesquiterpene lactone that acts as a specific NF-kB-DNA binding inhibitor by irreversibly alkylating free sulfhydryls of the cysteine residues on the p65 subunit. Exhibits no effect against the DNA-binding activity of the homodimer of p50 subunit, nor does it affect cellular NF-kB activation/nuclear translocation or IkB dissociation/degradation.
