A 40 kDa mammalian heat shock protein. Inducible by heat, transient metals, and azetidine carboxylic acid in mammalian and avian cells. Reveals homology to bacterial heat shock proteins DnaJ and yeast DnaJ-related proteins. In heat-shocked cells, Hsp40 rapidly translocates from cytoplasm to the nucleus and nucleolus and works with Hsp70 to repair denatured proteins. Purity: ≥90% by SDS-PAGE.
