Major form of interleukin-1 secreted by monocytes and macrophages. Induces nitric oxide synthase in pancreatic and smooth muscle cells and suppresses apoptosis in rat ovarian follicles. Involved in inflammatory and immune responses and promotes wound healing. Biological activity: ED50 = <12 pg/ml as measured in a cell proliferation assay using the murine T-cell line, D10.G4.1 (Symons, J.A. et al. 1987). Purity: ≥97% by SDS-PAGE.
