MLA White crystalline solid. PROTECT FROM LIGHT. a-Bungarotoxin neuronal nicotinic receptor (nAChR) antagonist. Has high affinity (nM range) for a subtype of the neuronal acetylcholine receptor (nAchR) in the brain that probably incorporates the a7-subunit. Exhibits micromolar affinity for muscle acetylcholine receptor and for a-bungarotoxin-insensitive neuronal nAChR. Reconstitution experiments in Xenopus oocytes have shown the effects of methyllycaconitine on nAChR to be highly specific for the a7-subtype (IC50 = 0.1 nM), but not for the a3b4-subtype (IC50 = 1 µM). Can be used to distinguish between neuronal and muscular nicotinic receptors. Purity: >95% by TLC. Ref.: López, M.G., et al. 1998. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 95, 14184.
