A non-detergent sulfobetaine (NDSB) that prevents protein aggregation and facilitates protein-folding, presumably by interacting with the early folding intermediates. Shown to improve the in vitro renaturation efficiency of reduced hen lysozyme (60% enzymatic activity at 0.6 M) and chemically unfolded tryptophan synthase b2 subunit (100% enzymatic activity at 1 M).
