Lyophilized off-white solid. HYGROSCOPIC. Native Stapylococcus aureus nuclease. Cleaves RNA and DNA to produce oligo- and mononucleotides with terminal 3′-phosphate groups. Also used to convert standard rabbit reticulocyte cell-free extracts (lysate) into mRNA-dependent protein synthesis systems. Note: 1 KU = 1000 units. Specific activity: ≥15,000 units/mg protein. One unit is defined as the amount of enzyme that will release a sufficient amount of acid-soluble oligonucleotides to produce an absorbance increase of 1 at 260 nm in 30 min at 37°C. EC 3.1.31.1, CAS 9013-53-0.
