Hydrolyzes the N-acyl linkage between fatty acids and the sphingosine base of ceramide in various sphingolipids and gangliosides. This enzyme can also catalyze the reverse reaction and transacylation. It is not recommended for hydrolysis of ceramide. Note: 1MU = 1 milliunit. Activity: ≥1 unit/ml.. One unit is defined as the amount of enzyme that will hydrolyze 1 µmol of asialo-GM1 per min at 37°C, pH 6.0.
