Tumor Necrosis Factor-a Lyophilized. Lyophilized from sterile-filtered PBS, 50 µg BSA/µg TNF-a. Recombinant, mouse tumor necrosis factor-a expressed in E. coli. Has the ability to kill certain tumor cells directly. Referred to as an inflammatory cytokine as it initiates the cascade of other cytokines and factors that make up the immune systems response to infection and cancer. Reported to mediate changes in bone metabolism during inflammation. Biological activity: ED50 = 20-50 pg/ml as measured in a cytotoxic assay using the TNF-a susceptible murine L-929 cell line in the presence of Actinomycin D (Cat. No. 114666).
